My Endocrinologist out me on the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, Three meals a day no carbs for two of them then what ever you want for the third meal, including desserts. The only restrictions you have to start your "reward" meal with a salad and must finish within one hour. Check it out on Amazon the book is less than $10 http://www.amazon.com/Carbohydrate-Addicts-Diet-Lifelong-Solution/dp/0451173392

I have been trying to lose weight for the last 5 years, I have lost 6 pounds in the last four weeks. I too am on met. Good Luck :) Oh and you have made the biggest step, you are trying to get healthy, good for you :)

How long have you been on Met? A lot of people don't start to see results for up to 6 months.

For me, the Met doesn't make me lose weight. I only lose if I'm watching my diet (low carb) and exercising on top of taking the Met. I can diet and exercise without Met and not lose at all, though, so the Met does do something! :)

The constant bleeding sounds like your hormones haven't straightened out yet - either from the pcos or starting the birth control? Have you had your thyroid levels checked? Sometimes that can cause bleeding.

Hi Amanda B Mommy of 3----How are you? Well I must agree the diet and exercise is the best method. It may not work alone as far as weight loss goes but it helps keep you healthy all together. I havelost four pound with the diet and exercise alone...my doctor just put me on metformin but I have not started yet...I start tomorrow.

I've been on birth control for awhile now they changed it 3 times because i still bleed i'm taken this new one i've been on it for a week still no change but i'm going to give it another few weeks and hope that will change. So i'll try the no carb thing and hope to keep in touch with you all to let you know how it's working thanks for the book tip i really do need something and i was eating salad with lunch and dinner everyday just stop because i ended up get more depressed and just gave up i'm not feeling depressed anymore it comes and goes but i've been good here for a little while well thanks again wish me luck!

I should probably practice what i preach but........
after being off this sight for a realing long time im finally back on and motivated. Anyhow, after a rollercoaster of weights up and some what downs I have come to the conclusion that this is the only thing that works (along with the fact that im also on Met and Spiro)
South Beach or similar low carb diet (I like southbeach the most because i seems that it offers the most yummy recipes (including dessert)
and though I havent done it in a long time cardio...My favorite was called a program "From couch potato to 5K in 3 months" google it, its pretty cool That combined with the low carb and met was the only thing that worked for me....Like I said I should practice what I preach and I have been really lazy, but I think im gonna start back up tomorrow :)

Hello I feel your pain, I tried every single diet and nothing worked until I got on the zone diet, I lost 26 pounds in 6 months I keep it simple portion control, lots of vegetables, fruits, lean meats and 30 minutes walk everyday!

I know how you feel, I also feel frustrated that I can't seem to lose any weight. When I was off the Merformin I gained weight! even with going to the gym and dieting. I have been on and off metforming for 2 years and it never helped me lose weight, but maintain my weight of 240lbs.... I wish I could take a higher dose of metformin (currently taking 500mgs per day) but I get sick with this already, due that it lowers my blood sugar way too much. Anyway, just try your best to eat healthy and exercise. Good luck

As per my experience you can go through Cabbage Soup Diet. This is really very good for weight loss.It is a radical weight loss diet involving consumption of low-calorie cabbage soup for seven days. Also as much as possible you can perform regular exercise and you can eat more fresh fruits and green vegetables and you can join yoga classes also.

I agree with the thyroid. I am a nurse and some of the docs I work with said that hypothyroidism is the most undertreated syndrome! I have been having my thyroid checked for years and it keeps coming back normal, however I have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Finally after 10 years it came back hypo. But the numbers don't always tell the story. the guidelines have actually changed recently to a tighter scale so more people get treated. my accupuncturist put me on herbs for my thyroid and she says we should be treating the symptoms and not the numbers per say.
