17 and worried

maybe i shouldn't post on here, because i'm not diagnosed with PCOS but i was just looking at a list of symptoms and i was shocked to see such a fitting description of my health problems.

in any event, i have really irregular, painful periods (every 3 months, disabling cramps). what i want to know is, did you guys ever have normal menstrual cycles? i've had my period for almost 5 years and it's never been regular. from what i read, some women develop irregular cycles in later life. i also wonder when your other symptoms (hirsutism, acne, weight gain, etc.) began to develop.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as PCOS until my doctor told me I should be checked for it so I can't be sure when my symptoms started to occur. I got my first period at around 11 though and they were irregular right up to the time I stopped having them at all.

I think that was...maybe a year after I started my period, but due to family problems my mom and I passed it off as a stress related problem. I'm sixteen now and had my first period in around four years..and they're still not regular even with my mediation. I gained weight at a very early age due to my supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) so that was another symptom we didn't realize was PCOS.

And I know this probably isn't helping you much, but have you had blood tests and such to make sure you don't have PCOS?
