A couple of stupid questions :?: :?: .... Acidophillus doesn't stifle the weight loss s/e of the Metformin does it? I really just want to lose weight (and gain something possitive out of this whole thing) and I don't want to take acidophillus if it will keep me from doing so. Also, I was put on Metformin 500... just once a day. I'm confused (even though I'm a RN, new nurse though) I thought that to keep your insulin levels stable you would have to take it at least twice if not three times daily. Does the once a day dosage work throughout the day? I just don't want to wait for two months (until they want more blood work) and then see that it did nothing for me because it was only active in my body for 8 or 12 hours out of the day. Also, when did the s/e start for everyone? The first day, or a couple of days into it? TIA for listening to my newbie questions.

Therapeutic dosage is anywhere from 1000-2500mg/day depending on the person and your doctor. I am finding that most of us start at 500mg/day and increase by 500mg according to your tolerance. I have started and stopped met for two yrs now and never got past one week of 1000mg. (I'm a whimp)
But I also never found this site and realized I wasn't alone so I'm making informed choices now re my diet, exercise and meds, instead of just waiting for the opportune time to have diarrhea and cramps...which is never I found out.
I haven't found any contraindications with acidophillus and met, and I am taking both, so let me know if you have-Or Anyone for that matter.
Good Luck and let me know how your doing.

I am also taking acidophilus and Met and do not know of any interactions. I wouldn't see why they would interact, pro-biotics are just increasing what is already naturally present in your digestive system.
Are you taking Metformin XR? If so, you would only take it once a day and it is slowly release in your body throughout the day. Typically the doctor would increase your dosage, but I have seen others on here who only take 500mg. I think it depends on you Dr, weight, etc.
Minor side effects started for me the first day. Major side effects started once I upped my dosage to 1000mg. My blood sugar dropped so low that my body couldn't keep up no matter how much I ate. I'm now back to 500 mg until my doc wants me to try to increase it again.
