I went to the doc today and asked him for metformin for my Pcos well first he tells me Metformin has nothing to do with Pcos that it is for dieabetics when i tried to show him all the research i had done he didnt want to see it I was wrong in his eyes but then he gave me the script for metformin with a one year worth of refills lol then set me up with the fertility doc. I am glad he gave me the meds i need but i will never go to him again he never listens he thinks i dont know what i am talking about when i tell him what is bothering me but hopefully the metformin works and i can have a baby soon:):)

LOL
I did the same kind of thing with my family doc. He had done some tests (which I had to push him to do), declared me "normal" (I'm sorry, but I am NOT "normal"!), and just looked like he wanted to run out of the room when I pinned him down and said, "Well, I have this, this, and this, and that is NOT NORMAL! What is happening????" He was more than happy to refer me to the endo!
It was funny, though... I had to go back to him when I had a bad flu/cold, and I had lost weight at that point. He was happy to see that, and actually asked what I felt the difference was. I told him that the endo agreed that I had a metabolic issue (IR), and that he had put me on 2,000 mg/day of Metformin, and that was when I was finally able to lose weight.
I think with my family doc, he was just incredibly over-run and over-worked (we don't have nearly enough docs here), but he really did care. He still can't give a lot of attention, and I shudder when I think of all the conditions that must be left untreated with him, though. My FIL had his diabetes left undiagnosed for almost a year because no-one read the results of the bloodwork!
Now, I've moved to a new city, and the wait list for family docs is about 3 years!!! They didn't even have an endo here until recently, and my endo (who I LOVED!!!) has now moved back to Toronto (where I was originally from). *sigh* :(
At least I've managed to find a good ob/gyn, though!
Anyways - back to you! :)
I think you are absolutly right to not go back to your family doc (or, at least, not for PCOS!). Hopefully the fertility doc will do more than just try to get you pregnant, but will also try to help you manage the PCOS, too!
Take care, and good luck! :)

Did you mean 1,000 mgs? If so, try only taking 500 mg for a week or two, and see if that's better. Most people have to gradually increase their dosage or they can get really sick.
Good news on the "smoking aid", though! :p lol

a little quack humor:
"Orthodox medicine has not found an answer to your
complaint. However, lucky for you, I happen to be
a quack."
