Hi Everyone.

I have quite a lot of excess hair and it is very embarrassing. Mainly it is on my upper lip, chin, and sideburn areas. Does anyone know if this can be eliminated any way?

Thank you!

What exactly is Dianette? And does it have any bad side effects? I waxed my upper lip and neck and chin a few months ago, but it caused hives (urticaria), so I don't think I'm going to do that again.

I have the same problem and was diagnosed with pcos today. My doctor put me on Estrostep birthconrtol and spironolacto hormone pills. With this combo, no new hair will grow. The hair that is already there can be treated with laser hair removal.

Yeah, I have that. I have upper lip hair (which I bleach), chest, stomach (I bleach some of it), back, butt, etc. Arm hair not as much, but everywhere else. Ugh :(

When I was a teenager, I was constantly worried about my hair. Infact, I obsessed over it so much that I really didn't get much of a high school life. When I graduated college I finally had some money to do laser hair removal and electrolysis. It made of world of difference. I am still hairy, but much much much improved! I am still doing electrolysis treatments, but less often. So if you can hang in there until you're done with college and have a job, it will make a world of difference. It's not as far off as you may think. Just thought I'd give you all something to look forward to!

Hey i've just joined...i have quite a few questions about this particaular area of discussion.
I am 17 years old...i have embaressingly got hair on my chest and nipple area...and up lip....this can't be normal!
I've been reading up on PCOS and the symptoms of it...i have 6 out of 8 of the symptoms tha ti have heard of so far...
I think im more worried that its not that...then i'm probably a total freak if its not PCOS. At least if it was i would feel better about having a reason...
What do you guys think?

i have all the areas you said waxed and i find it normally last about 4 weeks. it costs a bit but its worth it just for the confidence boost. :)

waxing didn't make it worse - its made it finer when it grows back.
hope that helps

Make sure if you use nair, you get the kind that is specifically for your face and don't keep it on too long. I used nair on my face when I was like... 16 or 17 and I left it on to long and it dried out my skin so badly I think I had minor chemical burns- so be very very careful.

Hey, if you want to wax, but have an allergic reaction to the wax, there is something called sugaring, which is basically the same thing. You can buy the kits at your local pharmacy (you may have to go to a bigger one, though). Alexandria sells one. It is basically a thick, sticky syrup made from sugar.

If you want it professionally done, talk to your Esthetician, and explain that you have an allergy problem. See if she will still do it, if you bring in the product (and give you a discount, too!).

I'm also allergic to perfumes, and can't use the Azulene oil they use after waxing. This is why I started sugaring - it cleans up w/ water!

I reccommend electrolysis. I had it done when I was like 12-13. Having really had any issues on my lip at least since. It is a bit painful. They shock your hair folicles, but it works. I think waxing, shaving can make it come back worse. Bleach makes the hairs stiff. Good luck!

I have hair everywhere! i dont think there is a place on my body where there isnt, except now my upper lip which i have recently started waxing (after 5 years of bullying) Its really embarrassing to have to look at people when i know they notice all the disgusting dark hair around my face - even my friends dumped me when i didnt 'fit in' with their image. i hate having hair everywhere and i know its because of pcos even though i havent been diagnosed. im too scared to see anyone about it. everytime i try to tell anyone, they just start talking about their own problems! its so frustrating to go through so many emotions just because of this damn syndrome!!  :x :? :(

If friends are ditching you because you have a bit of facial hair (which many girls have) then they're not worth your time of day or real friends anyway. You don't need those sort of people in your life. Seriously, you probably think it is alot more noticeable to people than it is. Sure, I know people might notice the hair now and again but they're not going to obsess over it or care if they are decent, functional, respectful people.

If you are so concerned see a doctor and see if you can get laser hair removal on the NHS. My friend had this done but I couldn't because apparently I wasn't hairy enough to get it on the NHS (yeah right!). So, if you do have alot of hair maybe you will get it done for free?

Any thoughts?

Thanks Democrazy! i've realised that now, in fact, people have said to me im so much more confident without them! About laser hair removal - it'd probably take 15 years just to do my back, never mind everywhere else, im just too hairy and because ive got black hair, its so much more noticable! Im definitely going to see my doctor as soon as possible - this is really getting me down now and if i have pcos, atleast i can take some drugs to counteract the problems. Besides, is weight an issue for anyone else along with the hair? for the past two years ive been trying to lose it but i just seem to keep putting it on:!: Some people on the forum have said theres a drug that causes you to lose weight that your doctor can prescribe. Is anyone on that and is it available in the UK? What side-effects are there?

Your symptoms (including the weight gain) are most likely caused by Insulin Resistance. Basically, your body isn't very good at processing insulin, so it is starting to over-produce it. This causes the weight gain/difficulty losing weight. As insulin is a "master hormone", it affects all your other hormone levels, too, including testosterone (what's responsible for the hair).

Check out the FAQ's page. I wrote it, and included a LOT of info about IR and what to do about it. Most of which, you should still be able to do as teens living in your parent's home. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me!!!

I have hair all over the place, it's horrible.

I just keep the facial trimmed to a tolerable length and then I bleach it...I have to repeat the process once every week sometimes every other week. I shave it pretty much everywhere else, which is annoying, but I'm afraid of waxing, plus it seems like that would take even longer.
