I have been on the BCP for 6 months now, which has helped with acne, regulating cycles, and decreased some facial hair. I told my doc that my body hair is still extreme, so she put me on a new diuretic (small dosage, so she says). She said its similar to the stuff in Yazmin (which i am NOT on). I'm wondering if this will actually work for slowing the hair growth and what potential side effects are. Will it also help with the weight loss or just water loss?? Thanks!

What is the name of the diuretic?

It is called Hydrochlorothiazide, I'm prescribed 25 mg tabs, once a day. She said in two months if i am noticing a difference, to take half the tablet a day.

Hydrochlorthiazide (HCTZ) is for water loss...Indirectly it will help with weight loss because you're losing water (along with water you lose electrolytes, so make sure you drink well, and also eat foods that contain potassium (banana's/orange juice do, but i'm not sure how great they are for PCOS'ers to have) It can also lower your bloodpressure as well, and is often used to treat high BP. It also apparently can raise your bloodsugar levels, but i'm not sure if this is common or rare. They use it for edema (swelling) in Estrogen therapy. Unless there is some newer research that says otherwise or if someone else knows, then I think that's all it's used for. don't know if that helps

p.s. if you have lower bp, make sure you drink enough...you might find especially when first taking it that you are dizzy. Also take it in the morning ;) which I'm sure you know!
