hi there alexis , i am a mom of a daughter who is 13 and has pcos, she takes yasmin as well as metformin er. you need to be seen by a pediatric endrocronologist , because you are so young . a gynocologist can treat you but many pediatriciians refer you to a ped.endo. ours did. talk to your mom about this. if you need to ask any questions I can help as well as tell your mom, what we have been through.good luck.:)
I agree with Taysmom about your need to see a pedicatric endocronologist. My daughter is 17 and was diagnosed with PCOS when she was 16. Birth Control Pills would not be enough of a treatment for her. A lot of doctors don't know enough about PCOS to properly manage a patient suffering from this. When you look for an endo, you need to make sure they really undertand PCOS. The first one my daughter saw didn't even recognize that she had something wrong with her. If a doctor is only talking about Birth Control Pills as a treatment, I would be uncomfortable. I would be happy to talk to your mom as well.

mom,
hi there i'm taysmom and would like to know what other treatments your daughter is on. is she on the metformin? does she have any hair issues? this was like an onset after her missing periods , and then skipping them I will be glad to talk to you about anything, being a parent of a child for me is a bit hard b/c i want to keep her self esteem up through all of this , as well as having her eat right. she's a teenager so she goes thru spells of different foods. she does take a multivitamin as well as drinks v8 fusion b/c she doesn't eat salalds or much veggies, just cucumbers, carrots, some corn. thanks for any advice, we were diaganoised in march 09.:)
My daughter takes prometrium and uses the vivelle dot patch (similar, I guess to using the BCP, just lower dose of hormones). She also takes spironolactone. She doesn't take met and she doesn't appear to be IR at this time (she has become quite careful with how she eats in order to avoid the IR). Her skin has cleared up since the treatment and looks beautiful. Her hair stopped falling out for a long time, but is at it again full force. We are in the process with having her hormones looked at again and trying to figure out why her hair has started falling again. She never had a serious problem with excess hair, just a little bit on the corners of her upper lip. She started treatment not long after that appeared and it has never gotten worse and we don't see it any where else. She still just spots-no real period. Contact me anytime you have a question!

mom,
hi there , yeah we aren't forsure if she is IR either, they are doing this i guess as a precautionary. her endo says for 6 months, then we'll go from there. she isn't really over weight either. I had alot of problems as a kid with my period, and i wasn't ever regular until I went on the pill at 18, i put myself on it to have a period, i had only some stomach hair and lower back hair, didn't know why?.my mom took me to the dr and they said at 13 for me to go on the pill, and she was like not, so i dealt with it until age 18. b/c she was like me until having me. my daughter also has cysts in her ovaries more in her left then right, so i guess that is why we are on the yasmin. in my daughters case it could be i guess a lack of estrogen to balance out not for sure, but well see. she has had no problems on either pills. she take 1500met a day.she had a bit of lip hair, stomach and lower back as well as a bit under her chin, also we had some hair on her head thinning out but that seems to have stopped. but we wax her lip and under her chin and it barely comes in now, thankgoodness. i am a hairdresser so i wax all the time at work, and can do it there. i am just glad that i looked into this further and requested the bloodwork in which is all normal even her glucose and sugar and insulin, thryroid but the test for i guess the follicules in her ovaries were rather high, so that prompted a ultra sound, and then from there a ped.endo visit and now were just taking it one day ata time. i am so glad i found this site. i try to get her to eat better and she does, but not much on veggies, so we do v8 and a mutivitamin, i buy sugar free stuff, and whole grain stuff and more fruits, so we are doing much better and she is riding her bike and doing stuff to stay active.its just a waiting game it seems, thanks for listening and i am glad to have found a mom, on here to talk back and forth with. thanks !! have a great day!!:)
