My doc's office is closed tomorrow and I am want to know if the info from my pharmacist sounds correct. Also, I am just curious about what everone else does.

I am one week and one day on Metformin 500 mg. My bottle says "Take one pill per day for one week and then two pills per day." I called the pharmacy today to ask if that was one pill 2x per day or 2 pills at a time and they say two at a time. But, I notice that many of you take one pill several times per day.

Any thoughts??

Thanks! Toni in Memphis

When she told the most common dosing scedule when she was talking about prescribing this to me this was what she said. Most of the time it is one pill twice a day to keep it more even .. Two at once can drop your sugar too fast.

It probably depends on the type of Met you are taking. If you are taking the extended relase (XR) version then your doc is probably just uping your dosage gradually. I believe the woman who take several pills throughout the day are not on the XR version. Find out which one you are taking and confirm the usage with your doc. If you are concerned don't increase your dosage until you speak with your doc.
