TTC for 9 months and just recently found out I have PCOS. I just went to the ob/gyn today (insurance won't cover RE). Since I haven't had my period in a few months I am taking provera for ten days to jump start my period, then 50mg of clomid on cycle days 3-5. Then BD every other day for cycle days 12-18. Then he said if I don't get my period by cycle day 40 to take a pregnancy test. If I'm not pregnant to then try again for 3-6 cycles. I asked about Metformin but he did not want to put me on that until trying the clomid first. Is that normal? Most people on here seem to have been prescribed metformin, but he didn't even mention it!
Do people with PCOS usually have to use progesterone cream? If I suspect pregnancy in this cycle should I call asking about it? Or can you get it OTC?
Thanks for any info you can give me

It sounds like your doctor is confusing Metformin with being a fertility drug. It's true that some women can get pregnant with the help of Metformin when they couldn't get pg before, but that's because it's treating their insulin resistance - which is the cause of not ovulating in my case, for example. Having PCOS, you are most likely at least mildly insulin resistant and should be treating that (some people use herbs like cinnamon instead of Met). It might not necessarily help your chances of conceiving, but for some women, it does help. Certainly doesn't hurt to treat your IR. :)
Many women with PCOS do not use progesterone cream. Some doctors routinely run prog levels when you discover you're pregnant, but not all do. Mine never did, so I asked for it and found that my prog levels are within the normal range. If you have had symptoms of low prog before (like brown spotting during AF), then you might want to get it checked, just in case. :) I've never used the cream personally, so I'm not sure if there's an OTC version or not. Some of the ladies in the Fertility thread might be able to answer that one! ;)
Best of luck to you! :)
