Hello! I am a lesbian woman in PA. I was dx with PCOS 2 months ago. I am awaiting a D&C on December 10th. I have been with my partner for 4 1/2 years. I am glad to finally have found a place specifically for "us family."

It's been a struggle for me over the past two years because my sex drive has just about dissapeared, which obviously puts quite a strain on a relationship.
Also, I am a Registered and Licensed Dietitian who works in a hospital, in-patient setting. I struggle greatly with losing weight, despite a healthy diet. It's hard to keep it up (eating well and exercise) when you know it doesn't do much in the long run...I am on Lopid for my TG's and Metformin 1500/day, as well as fish oils. I hate taking pills!

I am always interesed in hearing any kind of suggestions or advice from anyone who has gone through the same problems!

With all of the hormones imbalances, some of us have a super-strong sex drive, some of us have none at all, and some of us flip from one extreme to the other. Then, of course, some of us have no issues whatsoever.

If your sex drive is low, consider some options. I think that most of us here would agree that (in general) women see sex as a demonstration of love. That is why it hurts when your partner just isn't "in the mood" - it seems like a rejection and like your partner is saying they don't love you anymore. Even if you're not really interested in sexual contact, why not try SENSUAL contact? Things like lots of loving touch - a massage, maybe, cuddling on the couch, or just playful smacking the bum as she goes past, that sort of thing. Make a point of CONNECTING with her and let her know in as many ways as you can that you still love her and appreciate her.

Also, even if you aren't interested in sex, see if there are ways you can "meet her halfway". Maybe get playful with her, enjoy the feeling of making her feel good. In some ways, having a lesbian relationship is a good thing because so many "straight" people think that all sex is is penis-in-vagina!!! That is SOOOO limiting!!!! lol :p Sex is supposed to be fun and playful. Get creative and imaginative! Try using a toy (or get a new, interesting one)! Act out a fantasy! Just break out of the mold!

I'm not saying to fake anything or to push yourself where you don't want to go - but by working on the other areas, you might "inspire" yourself. Even if it ends up being a bit one-sided, you can still enjoy things, too. Remember, it's not the destination, but the journey! Worst case scenario, you can help her "take things into her own hands". ;)

Personally, I have the issue where I want it more than my DH - but even when he's not really in the mood, he still gets a big kick out of making me squirm! lol I've also found that getting other kinds of touch really helps us feel connected and close, and the other part ends up being not as important.

Keep in mind, too, that there are all kinds of things tied up in our sense of sexuality. See if you can sort out what you feel are the biggest factors for you, then see if there are ways you can tackle them, both long-term and short-term. Self-image is a big one - it's hard to feel sexy if you're feeling "fat and frumpy"! Blood sugar and insulin levels can be another one, too. Seeing as how Insulin Resistance is so closely tied in to hormone balance, working on improving that can really help, long-term, too. Some of us can control it with diet and exercise, but some of us need Metformin (an insulin re-sensitizer), too. My endo explained it to me like this: If you have IR, then it blocks the ability to lose weight, so until you get the IR taken care of, you probably won't be very successful. It's a catch-22, though, as most docs tell you to lose weight to improve your IR. That's where Metformin comes in. It can help improve your sensitivity to insulin and "removes the block" so that you can then use the diet and exercise to lose weight and actually be successful at it!
