My wife's fertility doc told her today she wouldn't put her on Metformin because it raises your chances for a miscarriage, yet everything I read on the Internet says the opposite is true. Is there any truth to what she's saying?

Every doctor I've ever been to says the opposite - that Metformin helps prevent miscarriage, especially in women with PCOS. I took Metformin throughout my first trimester with my son and have taken it this entire pregnancy.

You could try printing out information to take to the doctor or possibly seeking out a new doctor. Pregnancy can be a very stressful time (especially if any complications arise) and you'll want a doctor you can feel comfortable trusting. ;) Good luck!

ditto what knut said. I would recommend seeking another doctor who is more knowledgeable and up to date with treatment of PCOS.

ditto --- I took Metformin until week 8 precisely to prevent a miscarriage... the only reason my doctor made me stop it is that I developed Hyperemesis Gravidarum (severe vomiting) due to the pregnancy (nothing to do with the Metformin) and she told me to stop Metformin just to give my stomach some time to recover (and because anyway I was throwing up the pills...)
