Cinnamon and Metformin

I posted this on the General board, but I thought this might be the better place to ask. Is it safe to use the cinnamon if you are already taking Met? Could using both cause a drop in blood sugar? Thanks for any info.

You can take cinnamon with Met, but you do need to be careful as it can lower your blood sugar too much. If you are interested in taking cinnamon I would suggest taking a very small dose to begin with. Take it with a meal and lots of water. One thing I've try to make sure I do is eat a small snack...a piece of low-fat cheese or handful of nuts...between my meals so my blood sugar never gets too low. You may also want to discuss it with you doc before taking it.
