Metformin weight GAIN?

I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. I have been on 1500mg metformin for a month and have GAINED 4 lbs. I'm pretty active and my weight was normal (112 lbs, 5'1"). I'm going crazy with this because I've really been watching my eating and continuing to work out. It seems like everyone else lost weight on this drug...

Anyone out there know why the gain?

YES! i am right now going through the same thing..my weight too was pretty normal (5"5 - 120 pounds) but since i doubled my met dosage from 500 to 1000 mg two weeks ago i've gained several pounds. t-shirts that fit me a few weeks ago are now tight in the chest and esp. stomach area. i don't know what's happening. i haven't changed anything else. i agree. it's very upsetting! i'm scared to move to 1,500 mg now.
i have an endo appt. next week so i guess i'll ask my doc then; will let you know!

Mary--can't wait to hear what your endo says! I'm thinking of going off--I was put on by my obgyn because I was not ovulating...but I'm always tired and getting so heavy it's a real mood killer! :lol:

my doc didn't say much about my feeling like i've gained weight as supposedly i'd only gained a pound when i got on the scale. yet my clothes are all fighting me tighter. i recently Stopped taking aldactone so maybe it's water weight. but he did say some women can get constipated. maybe that's what's causing your issues? if so he recommended increasing fiber intake. sorry i'm not of more help!!
